Sea Pokemon by DragonlordRynn Sea Pokemon by DragonlordRynn
“Pokemon can be classified by following criteria: A low reproduction rate (with the offspring being in most cases of its mother’s species), supernatural abilities like extended longevity (in some cases, as seen in the so-called ‘Legendary Pokemon’, it exceeds several thousand years), the ability to control different elements, large-sized bodies, a sudden second and third mutation/maturity stage, some of which are triggered by the radiation of different ores (and a newly-discovered fourth stage, the ‘Mega-Evolution’ which is triggered by ‘Mega Stones’), and near-human/superhuman intellect, even in animals like arthropods. It was generally believed that Pokemon where a whole different act of Creation, or even extraterrestrial life-forms.

In 1850 however, when a female West-Highland Terrier gave birth to a litter of Lillipups, people began to realize that Pokemon did come, in fact, from normal animals. This caused several theories to spring up until in 1976 the young Pokemon Professor Samuel Oak discovered a virus in one of his samples. First, he believed it to be a contamination, but then curiosity got the better of him. He noted a section in the virus’ DNA he found oddly familiar. In a sample of his Charizard’s DNA, he recognized the exact same section of viral DNA. This lead to a breakthrough in Pokemon research, explaining exactly where Pokemon came from: The ‘Pokerus’ Virus affects the reproductive organs, slipping its genetic information into its hosts gametes and changing the offspring to mutate into Pokemon.”

Actually, there are some Lake Pokemon in between too, but let's just call them 'Sea' Pokemon.

Here they are:
Kyogre, Horsea, Walrein, Wailord, Remoraid, Seadra, Corsola, Kingdra, Goldeen, Golking, Qwilfish, Magikarp, Gyarados, Mantyke, Barboach, Mantine, Carvanah, Basculin, Sharpedo, Whiscash, Feebas, Finneon, Milotic, Huntail, Tynamo, Gorebyss, Relicanth, Luvdisc, Lumineon, Chinchou, Lanturn, Alomola, Stunfisk, Eelektrik, Eelektross

Gorebyss and Huntail are known to lay their eggs inside of Clamperl so it seems that Clamperl evolves into either.

If you want more detail on them, send me a note and my sister is very much willing to do a close-up with some details.
Enjoy!

EDIT 07.11.13: Added Mega Gyarados, Skrelp and Dragalge
EDIT 04.01.15: Moved Seel, Dewgong, Spheal, Sealeo and Walrein to Other Mammals
                        Updated Eelektross
Added Wailmer, Mega Sharpedo, Honedge, Doublade, Aegislash, Vanilite, Vanillish, Vanilluxe, Chingling and Chimecho.

PLEASE NOTE: This is how I see the Pokemon. It is fine to be of different opinion, but please tolerate mine.

Shouldn't the whales be lumped with "other mammals," since they are mammals? Oddly enough, to go for absolute scientific accuracy, they should be lumped with the hoofed mammal pokemon because biologically, whales are descended from hoofed animals.

I know, but then again, this collection is 'Sea' Pokemon, isn't it? While scientifically correct to put the whales somewhere else, I leave them here just for the heck of it. If there was an Ichtyosaur Pokemon, I'm sure I would leave it here as well. After all, whales do look like fish.

I removed the seals, after all (They should have went to the Bears/Mustelids or Dogs, not to Other Mammals).
(Also, Cetaceans are more of a sister group to ungulates)

For the sister group thing, they actually fall within the artiodactyls, their closest relatives being hippopotami. Moving them to the ungulates will allow you to name the ungulate entry to "Ungulate Pokemon" and the "sea pokemon" to "Fish Pokemon" with absolute taxonomic accuracy (though paraphyletic, "fish" as defined by the four classes of completely aquatic vertebrates -- Actinopterygii, Sarcopterygii, Chondrichthys, Agnatha -- is covered by all the pokemon in the current entry save for whales). But then again, you did lump the plesiosaur and pterosaur pokemon in the "Dinosaur" category (which could be more aptly named "prehistoric reptile pokemon" or archosaur pokemon if Lapras was moved here or to "reptile pokemon") and the invert clade was polyphyletic as it is.

Whatever floats your boat, then. :D

On another note, are they colored with crayon, oil pastels, or colored pencils?

I'm going to guess that I'm the only one whose reaction to Corsola was not, "What is THAT?! GET IT OUT OF MY HOUSE!", but it was "PFFFFFFFFF! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!".

(The "PFFF" would be a spit-take of the milk from my cereal this morning. The other sound effect should be fairly obvious.)

Thanks to this compilation, I just noticed that there isn't an Arapaima Pokémon.
Shame on you, Game Freak! It's one of (if not the) largest freshwater fish in South America. D:

Maybe Mega Gyarados is merely a male Gyarados?  Understanding sexual dimorphism, this might make sense.

Since Gyarados already has diphormism, I think Mega Gyarados is a sub-species that mainly lives in the deep sea.

Corals aren't as symmetric as Corsola. But Frog fish are.

So... Angler fish it became.

I know corals are not that symmetric, but still think thats what corsola is based off... kinda. Its not like pikachu look like a mouse even though it is an electric mouse pokemon.
Either way I like your interpretation of it.
